For the past 10+ years, we've been playing with a 1978 Camaro. It has been through many changes and has been the test bed for many of our ideas. Countless dyno runs testing modifications have been performed. The first build was on a very tight budget and ran decent mid 11's with a 355 small-block. Over the years it became a high 8 second pump gas street car. The current combination is detailed in the articles below. It is not the only car that we have built, or the fastest, but it is the most documented and the fist car I drag raced.
Short Block - Holding 1000+ horsepower needs a strong short block.
Chassis - All the power in the world is useless if you can't put it to the ground.
Cooling System - A lot of power makes a lot of heat, you need a good cooling system to run pump gas.
Reducing Weight - Lighter cars accelerate faster, we put the Camaro on a diet.
Fuel Injection - Digital fuel injection was the choice for ease of tuning and streetabilty.
Cylinder Heads - Heads to to breath well for high horsepower, but also be streetable.
Turbochargers - Forced induction is the best choice for big power and low-end toque.
Valvetrain - After several dyno runs, we settled on a rather mild hydraulic roller cam.
